Walkie Talkie sold for record £1.3bn
ONE of Britain’s biggest skyscrapers has been sold for £1.3billion.
The 525ft tower in Fenchurch Street, London – dubbed the Walkie Talkie because its shape is similar to a handheld radio – has been snapped up in the UK’s largest-ever deal for a single building.
The new owners are Hong Kong-based food firm Lee Kum Kee, best known for its oyster sauce. The deal follows the sale of the 738ft ‘Cheesegrater’ building in nearly Leadenhall Street in May to CC Land, a Chinese firm.
The latest spate of megadeals suggest that the capital’s commercial property market is continuing to surge, scotching fears of a Brexit slowdown.
