Moped muggers in Harrods ‘acid’ attack

-

TWO muggers on a moped sprayed a noxious substance into a tourist’s face as they tried to steal his watch outside Harrods.

The 47-year-old victim was left in agony as the robbers struck outside the London department store. Chauffeur Fouzi Kebir, 46, who witnessed the attack, said one of the thugs remained on the bike while the other got off to spray a liquid in the man’s face.

He added: ‘The attackers had helmets on so you couldn’t see their faces. The victim was trying to fight back – he was holding his hands up defending his face.’ A taxi driver tried to ram the bike, on which the number plates had been obscured, but they escaped.

Mr Kebir and the taxi driver then used water to douse the victim’s face before the emergency services arrived to treat him at the scene in the Knightsbridge area of London.

The Qatari national is not thought to have suffered serious injuries, but Mr Kebir said: ‘The liquid was burning in his eye. The guy was panicking, shaking, he was in agony.’

Scotland Yard said officers are trying to find out what the substance is but say it does not appear to be a concentrated acid.
