Boxer announces divorce… then accuses wife of affair with champ
‘Moving up in the weight classes’
IT WAS a clash as vicious as any Amir Khan has faced in the ring.
But it was the boxer’s wife Faryal who was his sparring partner yesterday, as the couple traded insults in an astonishing fight on social media.
The pair announced their marriage was over in a series of tweets – with each accusing the other of cheating.
Khan, who is worth £23million, struck the first blow yesterday afternoon by announcing their divorce – then claiming his American model wife was having an affair with heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
The 30-year- old said: ‘Left my family and friends for this Faryal. I’m not hurt but another fighter. I’m making it public. You getting the divorce #Golddigger.’
But Mrs Khan hit back minutes later, claiming her husband left his family because they had ‘robbed’ him and telling him to ‘stop making false things up’.
Branding him a ‘30-year-old baby’, she went on to accuse him of sleeping with prostitutes and being a bad role model.
There was speculation the couple’s Twitter accounts could have been hacked, but in a video posted to his Snapchat account, Khan said: ‘So, everything you saw on social media today is real. Nothing’s been hacked.’
Joshua, 27, laughed off Khan’s claims, posting the music video from pop star Shaggy’s It Wasn’t Me online, and saying he had never met Mrs Khan.
He tweeted: ‘Bantz [banter] aside, I hope you guys can resolve your situation or this is a hack as we have never even met! Plus I like my women BBW [big beautiful women] #ItWasntMe.’
The spat comes at the end of a turbulent few months for the couple, who married in a lavish New York ceremony in 2013 and have a threeyear-old daughter, Lamaisah, together.
Problems began last year when Khan’s family said his wife dressed improperly for a Muslim woman.
She accused them of verbal and physical abuse, but in a TV interview Khan’s parents called his wife an ‘evil woman’, while his sister claimed that Mrs Khan had prevented the family from seeing Lamaisah.
Former light-welterweight champion Khan sacked his father as his manager.
Then a webcam tape of the boxer performing a sex act while chatting online with a model was leaked.
Yesterday, after Khan accused her of ‘moving up in the weight classes’ to have an affair with Joshua, his wife responded: ‘The amount of evidence I have on you. It can destroy you.
‘I’m not the one who’s been in the papers every month with my pants down. Cheater!’
Mrs Khan later deleted her tweets. It is understood the couple had been in Dubai to celebrate her 26th birthday last week, but she flew home alone.
There was no answer at their £1.4million mansion in Bolton last night. But a Khan family source told the Mail: ‘ Amir and Faryal have split up. It’s over.
‘There have been problems in the relationship for a long time and they were headed for a separation. It’s the best outcome.’
