Ronnie Wood: My brush with lung cancer
RONNIE Wood has revealed he underwent an emergency operation after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
The Rolling Stones guitarist, right, who is father to one- year- old twins, said he prepared ‘to say goodbye’ to his young family following his diagnosis. Wood’s doctor made the discovery after routine health tests ahead of the band’s next tour. The tumour was successfully treated with keyhole therapy in May.
But the father of six, 70, said he would not have chemotherapy because he did not want to lose his iconic hair. Wood said: ‘I’ve had a fight with a touch of lung cancer. There was a week when everything hung in the balance and it could have been curtains – time to say goodbye.’
The former hellraiser gave up smoking a year ago, before his twin daughters Gracie Jane and Alice Rose – with third wife Sally Humphreys, 39 – were born.
