Sophie Wessex and a ‘revolting’ Savile

-

PRINCE Charles was such a pal of Sir Jimmy Savile that he even turned to him for marriage guidance and to check his speeches.

Charles’s sister-in-law, the Countess of Wessex, was not so easily taken in.

Savile was recruited to radio station Capital Gold when Sophie was a press officer. ‘For Savile’s welcoming photo call, it was decided to get an attractive young woman to greet him with a glass of cham- pagne,’ reveals DJ David Hamilton in his book, The Golden Days Of Radio 1.

Sophie led the welcoming party on a windy day. ‘The more the wind blew up Sophie’s skirt, the more amorous Jimmy became, showering her arms with kisses. Before long, she could stand it no more, storming back to the press office saying to colleagues: “I refuse to have any more pictures taken with that revolting man.” ’
