‘Sex-obsessed’ peeping Tom jailed for a year
WAVING up at a police helicopter, this naked woman is one of the spying targets of ‘ sexobsessed’ PC Adrian Pogmore.
The 51- year- old was yesterday jailed for 12 months after secretly filming the woman and her husband having sex in their garden.
He also spied on naked sunbathers, using the £2million aircraft’s high-powered camera for his ‘sexual gratification’ for five years.
The divorced father of two, nicknamed the ‘team deviant’ by colleagues, admitted four charges of misconduct in a public office.
Judge Peter Kelson QC said: ‘ There was a period of five years when you spied on and recorded naked people from the helicopter at 1,000ft. Quite literally you considered yourself to be above the law. Nobody is above the law.’
Last week two pilots and two observers from the South Yorkshire force – who were on board the helicopter when the footage was captured – were cleared of helping Pogmore to make the films.
The peeping Tom had joined a website called Fabswingers and was said to frequent La Chambre, a ‘hedonistic’ swingers club for ‘liberated couples and sin- gles’ in Sheffield. He was also a keen naturist – often sunbathing naked – but he kept his swinging a secret from his ex-wife Lesley and a new partner.
Judge Kelson said he accepted Pogmore, of Rotherham, South Yorkshire, was a ‘rogue’ officer and no one else in the air support unit had been involved.
He told Pogmore: ‘You used a £2million helicopter, which costs in the region of £1000-an-hour to run, to advance your own sexual curiosities when it should have been detecting crime.
‘You were a rogue police officer in the air support unit. So strong were your sexual urges you were willing to take, and did take, a substantial risk of being detected by your colleagues in the air support unit.
‘You were not doing your duty as a police officer. Instead of deterring crime or detecting crime, you were committing crime. You grossly invaded people’s privacy and grossly mis- used an expensive piece of police equipment over five years.’ The judge said Pogmore, who made up to 20 minutes of sex videos from the footage, had committed an ‘extreme intrusion’.
Kate Batty, prosecuting, told the court Pogmore had secretly made four separate recordings between 2007 and 2012, all discovered two years ago in a secret drawer he kept at work. The helicopter’s Webcam MX-15 is capable of reading a number plate from two miles away. In 2007, he videoed a 43-yearold mother sunbathing naked in her garden with her bikini-clad daughters. The following year he captured footage of two naturists sunbathing in deckchairs at a naturist site. Pogmore also diverted the aircraft from a 999 call about a sto- len motorbike to make a 13minute film of a couple having sex. He knew the pair, who were also swingers and frequented La Chambre, and he had previously had sex with the wife.
Judge Kelson said he believed it was ‘no coincidence’ that the helicopter had veered off course to go to the swingers’ house.
‘She was naked waiting for the helicopter to arrive and she waved at the helicopter,’ he added. Pogmore zoomed in as the naked brunette walked on to the patio in bright sunshine.
She was filmed as she performed a sex act on her husband and then the pair had sex as the helicopter continued hovering.
The footage was released after the trial by the Crown Prosecution Service, on the order of the judge. But the judge said the couple were victims of voyeurism, as although they spotted the helicopter they did not know they were being recorded.
Pogmore’s activities were discovered in 2014 when his ex-wife found a sex tape he had made.
The four officers who were with Pogmore on the flights were found not guilty of the same offence. Police said disciplinary proceedings would continue against them.
