FAMILY FUN Horrible Histories, 5.25pm, CBBC

A SPOOF of Grand Designs (with ‘Kevin McCumulus’) is the highlight of a new episode about heroes and villains. McCumulus (Tom Stourton) worries that Ramesses II’s massive building programme of statues of himself might be a bit ‘statue-heavy’.

NEW KIDS’ SHOW The Zoo, 6.45pm, CBBC

IN THIS new series, footage of animals at Paignton Zoo is given a comedic twist through amusing narration (from Hugh Dennis) and outlandish character voices. To start, the gorillas are worried that the zoo will fail an inspection, but the best moment comes from ‘evil genius’, Brutus the tamarin monkey.

COOKS’ CHALLENGE MasterChef Australia, 7pm, W

THE key to this show is the lovely bond the judges form with the contestant­s, and that’s undimmed at the start of this new, ninth series. One young contender’s dish here knocks them sideways: ‘I just want to check if you’re actually human,’ reels George Calombaris!

NEW VENTURE My Restaurant In India, 8.30pm, W

EX-MASTERCHEF Australia contender Sarah Todd heads to India to open a restaurant in this new series. She has a plan to use locally sourced produce, but that’s harder than it sounds — then, the water and electricit­y fail. ‘Yeah, not good,’ says the usually hopeful Sarah, wringing her hands . . .

DID six people who confessed to murder after interrogat­ions in Seventies Iceland really commit the crime? This new documentar­y has a riveting real-life story to tell, and creates an atmospheri­c picture of a small, relatively innocent country reeling from shock and demanding justice.

ANNA MAXWELL MARTIN (pictured) is excellent as Merrily Watkins — widowed vicar, mother to a teenage daughter, exorcist — in a repeat from the start for ITV’s spooky drama. There are some sharp, convincing scares in a three-parter that builds nicely and deserves a follow-up.

WARREN BEATTY directs himself, as Howard Hughes, in a deeply personal portrait of Hollywood that Beatty waited decades to make, and which requires close attention.
