KNACKERED MOTHERS’ WINE CLUB
BARGAIN OF THE WEEK:
Cono Sur Sparkling Pinot Noir Rosé, £7.50 on offer (normally £10.75), Tesco A RIDICULOUSLY good value sparkling rosé from one of Chile’s most dependable producers, Cono Sur, this is made from Pinot Noir grapes from the brilliantly named Bio Bio Valley. Bright pink in colour, it’s fresh and crisp with lovely red fruit flavours. A great, crowd-pleasing, summer party wine.
WHITE WINE
Domain de Mandeville Viognier 2016, £8.50, M&S MUCH as I love the summerfriendly smell of Sauvignon Blanc, sometimes you just want something a bit more ripe, round and peachy. This does the trick perfectly, made from the Viognier grape grown in Southern France. With its naturally fruity character, it’s got more of a stone fruit vibe going on — peaches and apricots — along with a touch of spice.
Roast chicken.
RED WINE
VinNaturo Les Tetes Rouge 2015, 1.5l pouch, £20, morewine.eu GOOD quality organic red wine in a recyclable, keeps-it-freshfor-longer pouch? Now that really is a good idea. This is one of a number of organic wines now available in campingfriendly packaging and very good it is too. From the Loire Valley, it’s mostly Cabernet Franc with a few other grapes in there. Fresh with bramble fruit, it’s earthy and honest.
FOOD PAIRING: Organic sausages.
ROSE
Rose wine: Extra Special Selection Sangiovese Rosé 2016, £8.98, Asda IN A SEA of rose on shelves, this is well worth seeking out. Made from the Italian- born Sangiovese grape but from Australia’s King Valley in Victoria, it’s pale and pretty with delicate red cherry flavours. It’s this kind of wine that makes supermarket ownlabel ranges so interesting — and great value for money.
FOOD PAIRING: Picnic food.
