Protests as Buxton well is turned off

-

LOCALS in the historic spa town of Buxton, Derbyshire, are protesting because its ancient spring water well has been repeatedly turned off.

Residents can fill up for free at St Anne’s Well, which takes its supply from the same source as bottled Buxton Water, sold worldwide by Nestle.

But the supply has been constantly interrupted because of £46million renovations to the town’s 18th century Crescent.

Now 11,000 have signed a petition calling for workmen to stop ‘tampering’ with the supply. High Peak Borough Council said there was no intention to turn it off permanently.
