D-day for Mason after skull fracture

- By CRAIG HOPE

HULL CITY will allow Ryan Mason to make the call on whether he plays again after he sees a third specialist on Monday. The career of the 26-year-old is in doubt after two doctors gave different opinions on him returning to action following the fractured skull he suffered in a clash of heads with Chelsea’s Gary Cahill in January. Mason has been training all summer with a view to making a comeback for the Championship club, who he joined for £10million from Tottenham last August. But there is now a chance that Mason — capped once by England as a sub against Italy in March, 2015 — will be told it is safer if he retires from the game. Mason was kept in an induced coma following the incident and had surgery at St Mary’s Hospital in London. He has since spoken of feeling ‘lucky to be alive’ and his partner is now expecting their first child. It is thought that Hull will leave the final decision to Mason and his family, although the player is said to be desperate for positive news when he visits the latest specialist next week.
