Marking muddle
WHILE congratulations are due to those who have passed their GCSEs, it’s ridiculous that recent governments have been unable to sort out the marking system.
How many MPs does it take to work out whether a youngster can read, write and do arithmetic well enough to satisfy employers? JULIE LA COSTE, Lamberhurst, Kent. INSTEAD of using grades and points in GCSE results, why don’t they revert to the percentage system? Everyone understands the difference between 50 per cent and 70 per cent. And, for the brightest, it would also distinguish between those just in the 90s and those who got 98 per cent.
