Bombs away! US and Seoul show off firepower
AMERICA dispatched some of its most advanced warplanes in bombing drills alongside South Korea yesterday in a show of force against Pyongyang.
Four F-35B supersonic stealth fighter jets and a pair of B-1B bombers flew over the Korean Peninsula alongside Japanese and South Korean jets. The deployment came just days after North Korea launched a ballistic missile over Japan, triggering worldwide condemnation.
Yesterday the US jets took part in livefire exercises at a military field in eastern South Korea that simulated precision strikes against the North’s ‘core facilities’, according to the US Pacific Command. It marked the end of a ten-day annual military exercise, named Ulchi Freedom Guardian, involving tens of thousands of troops which had sparked anger in North Korea.
