Game, set and hatch! Serena has first baby
SERENA Williams has had a baby girl. The tennis star gave birth yesterday in Florida after being induced the night before.
Her daughter, who was born weighing 6lb 13oz according to reports, is her first child with her fiance Alexis Ohanian, 34, the founder of social news website Reddit.
The 35-year-old had announced her pregnancy in a picture in a bathing suit, posted on Snapchat in April, with the caption ‘20 weeks’. She later revealed that the picture, which was posted amid a series of images from a holiday with her fiance, had been put up by accident and was really only meant for close friends.
The baby has been born during the US Open. Miss Williams also missed Wimbledon earlier this year because she was heavily pregnant at the time. But she said she aims to return to professional tennis in time for the Australian Open in February, when she hopes to add to her record-breaking tally of 23 Grand Slams. She won the Australian Open this year while already eight weeks’ pregnant.
Miss Williams, who met her fiance in 2015 and got engaged in December 2016, said recently: ‘I am looking forward to becoming a mother and coming back to the courts. I’m always thinking about what’s next: The next victory, the next trophy.’
