TERRY RILEY’S 1964 piece In C was written for an indefinite number of singers and musicians. The score allows performers to take up the piece at the beginning of any phrase, but suggests they stay within two or three phrases of each other. The whole work has a pleasing, circular quality, and a slightly hypnotic effect on performers and listeners. In his continuing series ALL IN A CHORD (RADIO 4, 9.30AM), Ivan Hewett looks at Riley’s innovative, harmonious work.

ALED JONES and Myleene Klass duet for A CLASSIC FM RECITAL (8.15PM), a special concert which is part of the Classic FM 25th birthday celebratio­ns. They’ll perform the Welsh lullaby Suo Gan, with Myleene playing harp. This live event comes from the Tapestry Room of Dumfries

House, and will include two traditiona­l Scottish melodies sung by the folk singer Josie Duncan. The recital ends with the world premiere of Twilight Falls On Temple View, by the acclaimed Welsh composer Paul Mealor (pictured).
