WHATBOOK..? JONATHAN LYNN

Screenwriter and novelist

-

. ..are you reading now?

THE Pigeon Tunnel, by John le Carre. It’s a fascinating memoir, which, as you might expect, tells everything and nothing about the author.

...would you take to a desert island?

IN SEARCH Of Lost Time, by Marcel Proust. All seven volumes. I’ve never read it — at last, I’d have the time and there would be no choice but to stick at it. Perhaps I’d like it.

...first gave you the reading bug?

THREE equal choices: Thomas The Tank Engine, Babar The Elephant and Angus The Scottie.

. ..left you cold?

THE Da Vinci Code, by Dan Brown. Really dull writing and the idea was originally suggested in a much better book, The Holy Blood And The Holy Grail. His name, by the way, was Leonardo, not da Vinci. Vinci is the town he came from. Jonathan Lynn’s novel samaritans is published by Endeavour Press at £7.99.
