At least 90 killed in Mexico quake

THE massive earthquake that rocked Mexico last week has killed at least 90.

A spokesman for the country’s government said 71 victims had been killed in the south-western state of Oaxaca.

The quake was the strongest to hit the country in a century.

It struck off Mexico’s south-west coast near its border with Guatemala on Thursday, and was more forceful than the devastating 1985 earthquake that flattened parts of Mexico City, killing at least 9,500.

On Friday the country’s east coast was also hit by tropical storm Katia, which caused two people to die in mudslides after heavy rainfall.
