Police officer is Bundesliga’s first woman ref

HISTORY was made in germany yesterday when Bibiana Steinhaus became the first woman to referee a Bundesliga match. The 38-year-old police officer, who has refereed in the second tier for six years, took charge of Hertha Berlin’s 1-1 draw with Werder Bremen at the Olympic Stadium.

Steinhaus, who only showed one yellow card, said: ‘i’m just relieved it’s all over. i’m looking forward to tomorrow and everything returning to normal.’
