Timeline of four flights shambles

TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 5

1.15pm: Flight from London Heathrow to Athens is cancelled because of a faulty warning light in the cockpit.

5pm: Second flight is cancelled when it is realised that the delay means the cabin crew would go over their maximum number of working hours.

WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 6

Mr Lye returns to the airport after spending the night in a London hotel.

1.40pm: Plane takes off but flames begin to erupt from an engine and it turns back to Heathrow.

7.40pm: The fourth and final flight takes off from London.

THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 7

12.30am local time: Mr Lye finally lands in Athens following his 33- hour ‘nightmare’ journey.
