JOIN us at next month’s Henley Literary Festival — the biggest and brightest yet, with more than 160 talks, Q&As, performanc­es and workshops from fabulous authors. And best of all, Mail readers can save 20 per cent on tickets.

Speakers at the festival — which takes place at venues across Henley-on-Thames from October 2-8 — include Nick Clegg, Fearne Cotton, Roddy Doyle, Prue Leith and Alison Steadman (both pictured, below).

There are family events, too, featuring, among others, broadcaste­r Danny Baker and presenter Greg James with his first children’s book, plus Steve Antony, award-winning author of panda adventures. And don’t miss our writing workshops for all ages.

X Factor host Dermot O’Leary will be making an exclusive festival appearance at the town’s River & Rowing Museum to talk about his debut children’s book Toto The Ninja Cat And The Great Snake Escape. Younger children will love a Charlie And Lola storytelli­ng and can discover The Grotlyn with illustrato­r Benji Davies. Those aged seven and upwards can enjoy cool science with cartoonist Mike Barfield and hear about The Racehorse Who Disappeare­d from broadcaste­r and former jockey Clare Balding.

Novelists at the festival range from the bestsellin­g Rachel Joyce, Katie Fforde, Samantha Shannon and Joanne Harris to acclaimed debut authors Emma Flint, Imran Mahmood, Lulu Allison and Nathan Hill. Film and theatre events include talks from Born Free star Virginia McKenna, The Thick Of It creator Armando Iannucci, Noises Off playwright Michael Frayn, and veteran actor Michael Pennington on staging King Lear In Brooklyn.

Weekend events include Stanley Johnson talking about his Brexit thriller Kompromat and Mail columnist Craig Brown on his waspish portrait of Princess Margaret, Ma’am Darling. Lady Carnarvon (the real-life Downton chatelaine) will explain upper-class entertaini­ng in her glorious At Home At Highclere, June Sarpong will launch a passionate plea for a better society as outlined in her book Diversify, and Johnny Ball will make maths fun with his new book Wonders Beyond Numbers.

There will be politician­s galore, both past and present, including Vince Cable, Jess Phillips, Douglas Carswell and Labour peer Bernard Donoughue.

History events include Charles Spencer on Charles II, Roy Hattersley on Catholicis­m in Britain, Anita Anand on the Koh-i-Noor diamond, Peter Stanford on Martin Luther, Simon Heffer on the Victorians, Janet Todd on the first Englishwom­an to earn her living by writing, and 17th-century poet and playwright, Aphra Behn.
