Gale guides Cas to Grand Final

-

CASTLEFORD 23 ST HELENS 22

LUKE GALE was the hero as Castleford held off a late fightback from St Helens to win through to their first Grand Final at Old Trafford on October 7. Returning just 16 days after having his appendix removed, the scrum-half scored a try and kicked four goals to put his side 20-10 ahead after 64 minutes. But in a dramatic finish Saints roared back with three tries in the last 10 minutes to edge in front before Gale kicked a lastminute penalty to force the golden-point extra time. He then demonstrated more composure to land the winning drop goal that earned his side a nail-biting victory. In the final Castleford will meet the winners of tonight’s Leeds and Hull semi-final.
