Double salute to 70 years of royal marriage
HE HAS been by her side for over 70 years. And now, as they celebrate their platinum wedding anniversary, Prince Philip will appear alongside the Queen on a double-headed commemorative coin.
Married at Westminster Abbey on November 20, 1947, they are the first royals to celebrate their 70th anniversary.
On the reverse of the £5 coin, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are pictured on horseback, reflecting their passion for all things equestrian. That side bears the words: ‘Wedded love has joined them in happiness 1947-2017.’
The Royal Mint said: ‘They have built an enduring partnership that is an inspiration to us all.’
Their combined portrait was designed by sculptor Etienne Millner to represent their sense of duty. The uncirculated collection ranges from £5 to £20.
