THE colder nights ahead might make you want to go to bed earlier and stay in bed longer longer. However, this only works if your bed is warm, cosy and comfortabl­e. Around half of the population suffer sleepless nights because of the cold. The answer is to wear warm nightcloth­es and soft bed socks to help improve circulatio­n to the extremitie­s, so you are not woken up by the cold. Use a duvet with a high tog rating — or several layers of bedding. Above all, avoid a saggy mattress. If yours is more than seven years old, it could be time for a new one. This can be far more comfortabl­e than struggling with aches and pains on a flat bed that might be past its best.
