Another high boot but this is a yellow, not a red
THE St James’ Park crowd tried to pressurise Craig Pawson into sending off Joe Gomez for a high boot on Christian Atsu. The Newcastle players turned up the heat but the official wasn’t influenced. Pawson took his time before issuing an appropriate yellow card. Gomez’s foot was high, but Atsu stooped and appeared to head the Liverpool defender’s boot. Since Sadio Mane was dismissed for his high boot on Ederson, there have been a sequence of similar challenges. Each has been dealt with on its merits because no two incidents are identical.
