The ‘migraine inducing’ road crossing that divided a city

-

ZEBRA crossings can be so dull, with their boring old black and white stripes, so one city decided to create a ‘memorable impression’ for visitors as they stepped out of the railway station.

And this so-called flash crossing has certainly achieved its goal, with one Coventry local calling it ‘an eye-catching, impractical monstrosity’. Another suggested the garish blue and black pattern, which has baffled pedestrians and motorists alike, was ‘migraine-inducing’.

But councillor Jayne Innes, who said the £21,640 crossing had been painted light blue to match the colours of the city football team, refused to be downcast.

‘It’s fantastic,’ she added. ‘It’s our own bit of art on the road, welcoming visitors to our city and making a memorable impression.’
