Higher arrest risk for black adults

BLACK people are three times more likely to be arrested than white people, the audit reveals.

For blacks, there are 44.39 arrests per 1,000 people – compared with only 13.75 for whites.

Among Asian people, the figure is 15.62 per 1,000. The report shows there is a large postcode lottery, with black people in some areas being arrested at an even higher rate. In addition, the audit reveals that whites and Indians are more likely to own their own home. Among white British people, 68 per cent are property owners – the same proportion as among Indians. But Chinese people have a rate of just 39 per cent, while for black Africans the figure is as low as 21 per cent.
