Top school ex-deputy jailed for 70s abuse

-

A FORMER deputy headmaster of a cathedral choir school has been jailed for sexually abusing pupils more than 40 years ago.

Robin Davidson, 81, abused two boys over 12 months in the mid1970s when he crept into their dormitory or summoned them to his study for extra ‘rehearsals’ at Ripon Cathedral Choir School in North Yorkshire.

The mother of one victim accused Davidson of sexual abuse at the time. He owned up and was sacked, never working as a teacher again, York Crown Court heard.

But neither Davidson nor the school, which closed five years ago, informed police – and he was not brought to justice until this week.

The married fatherof- one was finally caught after a victim went to the police in 2013. He was found to be living in Worcester after having retired from a career in the book trade.

Judge Paul Batty QC said his actions had had a ‘ catastrophic’ effect on one victim.

The former head of music pleaded guilty to four counts of indecent assault on pre- teen boys. Davidson was handed a two-year sentence on Tuesday and placed on the sex-offenders register for ten years.
