Ewan McGregor’s wife ditches wedding ring after he’s seen kissing lookalike screen lover
EWAN McGregor has reportedly split from his wife of 22 years – as pictures emerged of the actor kissing his co-star.
The actor, 46, was spotted enjoying a romantic meal in London with Mary Elizabeth Winstead, 32, who bears a striking resemblance to his estranged wife Eve Mavrakis.
It has been suggested McGregor has been separated from his wife, with whom he has four children and who is almost 20 years older than his new love interest, since May.
The star has not been wearing his wedding ring in recent pictures shared on Instagram. The last photo in which he wore it was in May – the same month Miss Winstead, his onscreen lover in US TV show Fargo, announced she had split from her husband of seven years.
And now Miss Mavrakis, 51, has been seen without her wedding ring, in the latest sign the couple’s marriage is over. The French production designer made a low-key appearance as she went for a walk in Santa Monica, California, On Sunday.
In the photos that emerged over the weekend, McGregor was seen gazing into Miss Winstead’s eyes, before she held his face and kissed him passionately. An onlooker told The Sun they ‘seemed relaxed’ before they sped off on his motorbike.
The Scottish star escaped rumours of his marriage troubles with a trip to the Highlands on Saturday, where he seemed in high spirits when a fan spotted him on his motorbike.
The star put his left hand in his pocket, hiding his ring finger, as he posed for a photo near Loch Lomond. Elizabeth Murphy posted a photo on Instagram of her friend with the star, with the caption: ‘Chance meeting with Ewan McGregor. What a gent!’
McGregor is fond of riding around the Highlands and is believed to store motorbikes in several spots.
The actor also enjoyed a dinner with a mystery woman while in the Highlands. A chef who served him said he showed no signs of stress over the rumoured end of his marriage.
He was seated at a discreet corner table in the remote Old Library Lodge in Arisaig and chatted quietly to his companion.
He ordered a carrot and coriander soup for himself and his friend and then had fish and chips while she ordered a salmon dish.
Chef Kyle Woolfenden said: ‘There was nothing untoward about any of it. As soon as he booked we gave him table four in the corner which meant he had less chance of being bothered. We have no idea who the woman he was with is. But he was on his motorbike and was taking the ferry to Skye, that much I know.’
McGregor and Miss Mavrakis met on the set of court drama Kavanagh QC in 1995, shortly before his role in Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting won him international acclaim.
Speaking to the BBC’s The Graham Norton Show in 2012, McGregor said: ‘I knew right then that I really wanted to be with her and I knew I wanted to be with her in a different way to all the other many, many, many women I had been with up until that point. And I wasn’t wrong. I made the right choice.’
The couple married in 1995 before relocating to Los Angeles, where they raised their four daughters Clara, 21, Jamyan, 16, Esther Rose, 15, and Anouk, six. Miss Mavrakis is best-known for her work on 1994 film Bandit Queen, 1998’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Imagine Me & You in 2005.
Miss Winstead separated from her husband, writer Riley Stearns, four months ago. Announcing the split, the pair shared a picture of themselves together on Instagram saying they would ‘always love each other’. Both have since deleted the picture.
