what to do

TO tone your tummy, try the ‘hollow body hold’, says celebrity personal trainer Nadya Fairweather ( u-shape.co.uk).

Lie on your back, arms by your side, legs bent. Make sure to keep your lower back pressed into the floor. Then lift your head and shoulders off the ground or mat, as well as your legs.

Engage the whole body: tighten your stomach muscles, hold the arms firm and straighten the legs — with toes pointed. Now relax and try again. Build the hold slowly. Start with five sets of five seconds and rest in between. For a challenge, try a 20-second hold, for 5-8 sets with 10 second rests in between.

what to eat

NUTRITIONAL changes can also help trim down your waist, says Shona Wilkinson ( shonawilkinson.com). Eat porridge oats for breakfast, as they are an excellent source of fibre — the key to maintaining a healthy digestive system and preventing bloating. Celery can also help with this: due to its high potassium content, it is a diuretic — which combats water retention. Snack on plenty of almonds, too. They are rich in magnesium, which is needed to regulate your blood sugar levels. You can help prevent the food cravings which lead to over-eating by stabilising blood sugar levels.
