WARRIORS ON ROPES

-

WORCESTER scored six tries in their defeat at Harlequins on Saturday, so all hope of survival is not lost, but this Premiership campaign has yielded seven defeats in as many games, against a backdrop of deepening turmoil.

The club are now advertising for a new director of rugby, which will do little to inspire confidence in their squad. Gary Gold has handed the baton to Alan Solomons, but that is expected to be a shortterm fix. The Warriors need stability and a sense of direction. Mike Ruddock and Richard Hill proved incapable of unlocking the club’s potential and Dean Ryan might have been the perfect fit, but he was lured away by the RFU.

The time is right for an overhaul, starting at board level. Relegation is highly likely, but needn’t be calamitous if Worcester attract a high- calibre figurehead such as great Kiwi mastermind Wayne Smith.

If he were to oversee a revolution, Ben Te’o might even stick around to be part of it.
