Muslim foster row ‘was unfair’
SOCIAL services bosses have rejected criticism after the mother of a five-yearold girl complained she was being fostered by Muslim carers.
The girl’s mother claimed her family had a Christian heritage and that the child’s crucifix had been taken away.
There were also accusations that she was unable to eat pork or ham and Arabic was the only language spoken at the home in Tower Hamlets, London.
But an internal investigation by a senior social worker at Tower Hamlets Council found the allegations were ‘unfair’.
The girl’s mother wanted to ‘resume the care of her daughter’ as soon as possible, East London Family court heard.
A council spokesman said in a statement: ‘Although the mother disputes the findings, the local authority is satisfied that at all times the foster carers provided warm and appropriate care to the child.’
The case, which is overseen by a judge, resumes today.
