Christmas price freeze for Morrisons shoppers

-

MORRISONS has vowed to keep food prices the same as last Christmas.

The grocer, which notched up its eighth quarter of growth, is freezing the prices of the top 100 items typically purchased at Christmas, and extending its range of ‘Best’ own-brand products.

Morrisons chief executive David Potts said: ‘We had a great run last year because of the launch of Best, and have doubled the number of items in the range this year to more than 1,000.’

Morrisons was one of the better performing supermarkets last Christmas and Potts said the company, which has refurbished dozens of stores this year, was now in even better shape.

His comments came as Morrisons said sales growth was up 2.5pc in the 13 weeks to October 29.

Retail sales accounted for 2.1pc of the growth while its wholesale business provided 0.4pc.

Growth, however, was down from the 2.6pc it reported in the previous quarter, and the 3.4pc the company posted the quarter before that.
