WHAT HAS HE GOT?

-

THIS young Norwich player caught my eye at Coventry and has started to flourish at Carrow Road in a support forward position. He looks confident and has integrated well into a more experienced squad and adapted to playing at a higher level than previously. Maddison (right) is not the tallest, the quickest or the fiercest but he has a clever football brain and I like his willingness to try things and take chances with a pass that others may not risk. He is prepared to gamble and put the ball through the eye of a needle. A right-footed player, he has enough ‘jiggerypokery’ to beat his immediate marker with a feint, a drop of the shoulder or close control. He is also able to spot a scoring chance for a teammate because he has such good vision. His delivery is also good, which means he can picture a pass and then make it, too. Maddison seems to have excellent peripheral vision or ‘eyes in the back of his head’. He senses what is going on around him. He does not hesitate to shoot from 20 to 30 yards and is not afraid to miss. Maddison can power or place his shots and looks to have the potential to hit double figures this season.
