107-year-old on zimmer has £70 parking fine for being 13 mins late

- Daily Mail Reporter

A WOMAN of 107 using a zimmer frame was hit by a £70 parking fine for returning to her car 13 minutes late.

Bessie Farnworth popped out for lunch last month with great nephew Dave Holland, using her blue badge to park in a supermarket disabled spot.

After the meal, widow Mrs Farnworth was escorted with her zimmer back to the car by Mr Holland.

But two weeks later car park operators in Manchester – Parking Eye – sent a £70 fine for over-running their free threehour stay by just 13 minutes.

The firm has now apologised, however, and cancelled the ticket ‘as a gesture of good will’ to the great grandmother who used to work in Woolworths in Leigh, near Manchester.

Yesterday Mr Holland said: ‘My aunt Bessie was born before the Titanic was even built.

‘She’s an incredible woman. She’s still active but she’s a slow walker.

‘I think at her age the fact that she can even get out in public and have her lunch is remarkable.’

She lived on her own until last year, when she opted to move to Hillcrest Retirement Home in Tyldesley.
