WHILE registering the death of her mother, Kay Mellor realised that register offices are places of ‘laughter, tears and great drama’, and registrars ‘are at the very heart of life’. And thus was sown the seed of the award-winning writer’s latest drama, which focuses on the life and work o of registrar Kate Dickenson (Ashley Jensen). The six-part series, set in Leeds, begins with a newly promoted Kate shocked to find that her colleague Judy (Rebecca Front, pictured centre left, with Kenny Doughty, Jensen and Mark Stanley), is furious at being overlooked for the job for a second time — and she isn’t prepared to back down quietly.
