MOVING SHRUBS

-

IF YOU want to transplant a shrub or young tree, do it now. All woody plants should be fully dormant and will establish quickly in their new position. First dig a hole large enough for the shrub or tree. Lift the plant into a wheelbarrow, or onto a piece of tarpaulin for transport to the new site. Lower it into the new hole and back fill. Secure the tree with a stake and tie if necessary. However careful you are, some root damage will be inevitable. Prune the plant to compensate for that but try to retain its shape.
