ELIZABETH & PHILIP: LOVE AND DUTY, 9PM, BBC1

BEGINNING with a brief teenage encounter in the summer of 1939, the love between the Queen and Prince Philip was sealed with a fairytale wedding at Westminster Abbey on November 20, 1947, and has lasted for more than seven decades. Now, as the couple (pictured at this year’s Remembrance Service at The Cenotaph) prepare to celebrate their platinum anniversary, Kirsty Young pays tribute to the royal marriage (and others of equal longevity), looking back at their many shared milestones to paint a touching portrait of one of the ‘greatest and most enduring love stories of our time’.
