3 BARNEY MASON

ORIGINALLY a member of Billy the Kid’s Rustler’s gang, Barnney Mason became a turncoat and defected to Pat Garrett’s posse.

He became Garrett’s deputy, helping to ambush the Rustlers in December 1880.

Along with Garrett, Mason then took Dave Rudabaugh and Billy to Santa Fe, where they were tried and convicted of robbery.

After Billy was killed by Garrett, Mason continued to hunt cattle rustlers, but was later convicted of stealing a calf in 1887. He is believed to have died of a brain haemorrhage in 1916.
