1 ‘DIRTY’ DAVE

SO called because he is said to have hated washing, the outlaw ‘Dirty’ Dave Rudabaugh joined Billy the Kid’s Rustler’s gang in early 1880 and took part in raids across Texas and New Mexico.

In December 1880, Rudabaugh, Billy and the rest of the gang were ambushed and captured by Pat Garrett’s posse at Stinking Springs and taken to Santa Fe.

Convicted of robbery, he was given a 99-year jail term, but he managed to escape. It is rumoured that he was shot dead and later decapitated in a fight over a card game in Mexico in 1886.
