BONY OUT TO REPAY DEBT IN GOALS

- RALPH ELLIS

WILFRIED BONY is setting off on a one-man mission to repay the club he believes gave him his career. The burly Ivory Coast striker, whose £28million move to Manchester City did not work out, says he can make the difference to Swansea’s season after finally finding fitness. His £10m transfer back to South Wales has been a flop so far, but manager Paul Clement not only picked Bony to start but also handed him the captain’s armband. It took a debatable refereeing decision to rob the 28-year-old of what would have been a winning goal, and he said: ‘I never had doubts about coming back here. As soon as the club made contact with me I said, “Yes, I will come”. ‘It was Swansea who gave me everything that I am now.’ Bony may still be rusty but his ability to hold up the ball as well as Mike van der Hoorn’s extra aggression at the back proved crucial as the home side stopped a run of five defeats. Bournemouth were way below their best but defended superbly. Boss Eddie Howe celebrates his 40th birthday on Wednesday and defender Nathan Ake said: ‘The manager brings lots of energy to matches and in training, maybe because he is young.
