STUART Chambers has a history of striking deals with foreign businesses.

The 61-year-old who is chairman of miner Anglo American and builders’ merchant Travis Perkins, was a physics graduate and a engineer at Shell. The father-of-three joined Pilkington in 1996 and became chief executive before the firm was sold to Japan’s Nippon Sheet Glass in 2006. He later took up positions as chairman of Rexam, and oversaw its £4.5bn to American Ball. After this he was chairman of chipmaker ARM, and made £670,000 when it was bought by the Japanese.

A keen yachstman, Chambers lives in a £1.2m house in Macclesfie­ld with wife Nicolette.
