LEAGUE TWO THIS WEEKEND

- TOM FARMERY

HERO OF THE WEEK

JACK LESTER (Chesterfield): Not many wanted the Chesterfield manager’s job when Gary Caldwell was sacked in September. But Lester had strong links, having played for the club for six years. At first it seemed he had no chance of helping them beat the drop. Now, unbeaten since October, a 2-1 win over Barnet has them out of the bottom two places.

ZERO OF THE WEEK

MARK McGHEE ( Barnet): Rossi Eames was replaced as Barnet boss last month by McGhee, who could argue he hasn’t had long to change things. But losing to relegation rivals Port Vale and Chesterfield in the space of a couple of weeks should ring alarm bells.

GOAL OF THE WEEK

CRISTIAN MONTANO (PORT VALE v

Cambridge): Two goals for the Colombian forward. His first saw a lovely touch in the Cambridge area before turning central defender Greg Taylor and placing a leftfooted shot beyond goalkeeper David Forde.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

RUSSELL SLADE (Grimsby boss): Speaking after a 1-0 win over Forest Green made it three straight wins: ‘We won’t get carried away because we never got carried away when we lost a couple. But it gives us a bit of momentum before two very important games over Christmas.’

STAT OF THE WEEK

32 — The points the five teams from seventh to 11th are on, with only goal difference separating Coventry, Mansfield, Swindon, Colchester and Grimsby.
