A recipe for business success

BUYING into a franchise allowed Emmanuelle Neyret to take charge of her career. ‘I had been working in food and retail for some years, but being made redundant made me want to be in charge of my own destiny,’ she says.

Now Emmanuelle, 40, has a Yim Thai Foods franchise, operating a trailer-based outlet in Stratfordupon-Avon, Warwickshire.

‘I looked at all the options for starting my own business, but a franchise seemed less risky because the franchisor provides training, an operations manual and an existing brand,’ she explains.

‘I chose this franchise because I enjoy Thai food and it ’s growing in popularity. Yim Thai supplies the food and trains you to serve it. They set up a Facebook page and arrange accounts with the major delivery services, so you can deliver as well as offer an over-the-counter service.

‘Six months after opening , the business is constantly growing . Starting with a franchise was much easier than starting on my own.’

Paul Cumming , director of the Yim Thai Foods franchise, wants 30 more UK franchisees. He says: ‘They can run a trailer -based catering outlet offering our restaurantquality Thai foods, or manage a business supplying our dishes to pubs, clubs and restaurants.

‘ Franchisees need no food sector experience, but must have drive, commercial awareness and communication skills.’ The franchise investment starts from £20,000 for the deposit on a trailer, or £35,000 to £50,000 for an area in which you can operate trailers and a delivery service to catering outlets.

Andrew Davis, who owns the Right at Home care services franchise in Bournemouth and P oole, says: ‘I left the Army after 17 years as a Royal Artillery officer and chose franchising because being master of my own destiny was important.’

Andrew, recently named as Service Leaver Franchisee of the Year, says: ‘Right at Home gave a lot of support, allowing me to be my own boss and follow my passion while giving something back to the community.

‘By offering local jobs, community engagement and the best in quality care of Right at Home, I really believe I am making a difference.’

Andrew’s business now employs 60 people, with an annual turnover of £1.3 million. YIM Thai Foods 01789 612512, Right at Home 01513 050755.
