Burma death toll was 6,700 in first month

-

AT LEAST 6,700 Rohingya Muslims were killed in the first month of an army crackdown in Burma, a charity says.

The estimate from Doctors Without Borders is the highest yet for the death toll from violence that erupted in August and saw 655,000 Rohingya flee across the border to Bangladesh. The UN and US have described the operation as ‘ethnic cleansing’ of the Muslim minority but have not released specific death tolls.

The charity’s estimate, which includes 730 children under five, is based on six surveys of refugee camps.
