Manchester clubs at war over Fellaini jibe

- Charles Sale

MANCHESTER UNITED and Manchester City are at loggerheads again after an official City Twitter account mocked Marouane Fellaini.

City posted a photo of Leroy Sane obscured by fog on their French language account, asking fans to guess who was hidden in the mist.

Referring to the players’ similar hairstyles, one user responded ‘Fellaini’ to the photo. In reply, City posted the incendiary comment, ‘No, he is a football player.’

The posts, which were retweeted and liked by thousands of people, come on the back of a scuffle in the Old Trafford tunnel after last week’s derby. One United source said the Twitter post ‘says a lot more about them than it does about us’.

Sensitive to the tunnel fall-out, City removed the post and reprimanded the agency that run their French digital service, who sacked the employee responsible for the tweet. TOTTENHAM’S matches at Wembley are holding up crucial long-term repairs to the national stadium’s roof. All the metal sheeting in the roof must be replaced after leaks in the sealant. The repairs started in 2015, but only 15 per cent of the mammoth job had been completed ahead of Spurs’ arrival. The work has to be planned around events at Wembley and there are no gaps in the schedule.

ECB signalled the end of Giles Clarke’s term as president yesterday. Governance reforms will lead to a newly appointed 12-strong board, which means Clarke will have to stand down by the time the AGM rolls around in May. Hurrah.
