Trolls target Muslim Mo over Christmas message
SIR Mo Farah has been targeted for online trolls after posting a Christmas message online.
The four-time Olympic gold medallist, who is a practising Muslim, uploaded a photo of himself in a Santa hat to Instagram, with a caption that read: ‘Merry Christmas.’
But the 34-year-old, who was crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year earlier this month, soon faced a backlash from online trolls.
One critic wrote: ‘You are being given the name of our beloved prophet Mohamed and it is better to protect the honourable name and your religion of Islam.’
Another said: ‘Are you serious? You are Muslim you can’t do this, I’m sorry for you.’
Others among the runner’s 667,000 followers came to his defence.
One of them told Sir Mo: ‘Your message of peace and goodwill to people of other religions is much appreciated.’
