Polar first for Andy Murray’s brother-in-law
ANDY Murray’s brother-in-law has become the youngest person to complete a solo mission to the South Pole.
Lieutenant Scott Sears, 27, the sibling of the tennis star’s wife Kim, finished his icy 683-mile adventure yesterday.
The Army officer, of the First Battalion Royal Gurkha Rifles, raised more than £30,000 for the Gurkha Welfare Trust.
He had hoped to finish the 38-day trek on the evening of Christmas Day, he told the Daily Telegraph. ‘The past five weeks have been a huge challenge but I’m proud to be standing here now after two years of planning and training,’ he said.
Lt Sears pulled 220lb of equipment and supplies in a sledge – and beat the previous record set by explorer Luke Robertson, who completed the route aged 30 in January 2016.
