£6,500 for kids leaving home

-

PARENTS spend an average £6,500 helping their children leave home, a study shows.

It found the cash typically goes towards furniture and other household items and a deposit to buy or rent a property.

The survey of 2,000 parents also revealed that up to 45 per cent say their child has returned home. This ‘boomerang generation’ comes back mainly to save for a deposit to buy their own home or because they cannot afford rent, according to the poll by the Gumtree website.

It found parents in the Midlands and Northern Ireland are most likely to help their children financially, and those in Scotland least likely.
