Warnock left seething after Bamba is denied

-

CARDIFF manager Neil Warnock was fuming after his promotion-chasers saw a potentially crucial goal chalked off. Sol Bamba hooked the ball into the net with seven minutes remaining but referee Keith Stroud called play back for a free-kick after Steve Morison had fouled Joe Bennett on the edge of the box. Junior Hoilett’s spectacular early opener was cancelled out by Lee Gregory and hard-grafting Millwall were in the ascendant for long spells. It was a case of wherefore art thou Romeo in the opening minutes as Millwall left back Mahlon Romeo found himself in the book for a clumsy foul on Hoilett. And when Romeo was caught daydreaming in the fourth minute, Hoilett stole the ball, drove towards goal and fired an unstoppable 25-yard shot into the bottom corner. For a little while, Cardiff looked as though they might crush Millwall with their incessant pressure but the hosts gradually gained a foothold. Morison cracked a shot off the bar after controlling Ben Marshall’s inch-perfect cross, while Gregory sent a long-range fizzer just wide of the post. You sensed a Millwall goal was coming and it arrived five minutes before the break when Gregory stole in front of his marker to rip a shot high into the net from 10 yards. And Millwall were the better team after the break, with Neil Etheridge getting down well to save from Marshall and Gregory heading across goal and wide.
