Blighted by HS2
ACCORDING to HM Land Registry, property prices have increased by an average 5.2 per cent in the past year — unless your home is anywhere near the route of HS2, where it will have decreased by at least 10 per cent.
This vanity project — forecast to cost more than £50 billion — has blighted communities, most of whom will not receive any compensation.
If your house is on the route, you have to sell to HS2, which only accepts its own valuation and, despite other allowances, leaves homeowners out of pocket.
What are our MPs doing about this scandal? Around 30 MPs took part in a Commons debate concerning HS2 a fortnight ago, but when the vote was taken, there were 297 for and only 14 against.
Are MPs sleepwalking the nation into a project no one voted for and no one (except the construction companies) wants? GRAHAM HEASMAN,
