THE BANKING BARONESS
SANTANDER UK chairman Shriti Vadera is under growing pressure to take action over the lender’s links to the scandal at rival Royal Bank of Scotland
Nicknamed ‘Shriti the shriek’ for her domineering style, she was a business minister in 2008 and helped develop the response to the financial crisis.
An investment banker, Vadera has never held elected office and was made a baroness so she could join the Labour government. She is paid £650,000 a year as chairman of Santander.
